QUOTE OF THE WEEK
"The main thing
I was concerned about when I went in (to the Savoy) that first
time with my own band was getting those tempos together. Because
no matter what you were playing, the tempo meant everything so far as
getting those dancers out there..."
THIS Wednesday, October 31st, it's Halloween!!! So start making your plans to join us that night, in costume!!! Monika of the Satin Ballroom has contributed two free tickets to the upcoming Satin Ballroom on November 10th, so these tickets will be given away as part of our COSTUME CONTEST this Wednesday night!!! We're lucky to have the holiday fall directly on a dance night, so this will be our official Halloween Party for Lindy By The Sea this year! We can't wait to see what everyone comes as, this time around. Remember, we want everyone to dress up, but make sure your common sense prevails: if you wear a mask, be sure you can still see enough to dance well, and please make sure that your costume doesn't involve any accessories or other things that might poke your partner or others around you!
The Rhythm Club swings out again this Wednesday night! This wonderful venue just keeps getting stronger and more fun with every passing week. Come on down and see why we're known as the friendliest swing club in Southern California! We have dancers who attend regularly, driving from as far south as Irvine and from as far north as Santa Barbara!!! They must be onto something!
If you haven't been to Rusty and Peter's
Rhythm Club yet, consider this your formal invitation to get down here
and dance! Don't forget that there is a beginner's swing class,
so if you have any friends who may have been hinting that they're interested
in this swing stuff, bring them along! And then it's DANCING from
8:00pm until 11:30pm! And with 2,800 square feet of dance floor,
great air conditioning, plenty of parking (!!) and incredibly swingin'
tunes, how can you go wrong??? YOU CAN'T! Come dance with us
Wednesday nights at Rusty & Peter's Rhythm Club! (Rusty &
Peter's Rhythm Club is held at the Elks Lodge; 8025 Manchester in Playa
Del Rey; beginner's swing class from 7:30 - 8:00, dancing from 8:00 until

TWO TERRIFIC WORKSHOPS!!!
THIS SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 3RD...
THE DEAN COLLINS SHIM
VINTAGE HAIR STYLING FOR LADIES!!!
That's right!!! This Saturday, November 3rd, we're having TWO great events in one day: The Dean Collins SHim Sham Workshop (back by popular demand) and a Vintage Hair Styling Workshop for Ladies!!!
The Dean Collins Shim Sham workshop was such a success last time, we have been flooded with requests to do it again...so we are! This is a fantastic dance based on and expanded from the traditional Shim Sham Shimmy! This choreographed, non-partnered routine begins with a wonderfully stylized version of the original Shim Sham and is followed by whole new sections of classic swing movement to challenge and delight even the most seasoned dancer! This is a terrific addition to your dancing repertoire, and will be a source of inspiration in your Lindy Hop for a long time to come! For more details, click on http://www.swingshiftontap.com/workshop01-11.htm
Then at 8pm, we will be having a special workshop for the girls with renowned vintage hair specialist Christine Hensley!!! Christine will demonstrate many different 1940's hair styles. She will create them step-by-step so that you can learn, and then recreate them on yourself at home. She will show you want tools you'll need, such as specific brushes, combs, blow dryers, pins, etc. She'll divulge those secrets that dancing ladies have known for years. If you go dancing after the workshop, or in the weeks and months to come, you'll always have a glamorous hairdo to top off your fabulous ensemble and your stylish dancing feet! For more details on this great event, click on http://www.swingshiftontap.com/workshop01-11%20hair.htm !
Both workshops will be held at the Neptunian Woman's Club, 920 Highland Avenue in Manhattan Beach. We hope to see you all there!!!

TWO TERRIFIC DISPLAYS
AT THE RHYTHM CLUB
LAST WEDNESDAY NIGHT:
NICK AND ERIN
THE PERFORMANCE CLASS!!!
We had two great performances last week at the Rhythm Club! First, our friends Nick and Erin showed off their incredible routine which they used in competition over the weekend at the American Lindy Hop Championships in Connecticut (no word yet on the results of the competition...we'll keep ya posted...). Their routine was simply breathtaking, performed in high style with great costumes and loads of personality!!! We hope that the judges and audience at the ALHC were as impressed as we all were!
Then our own Performance Class came out and showed their stuff with the choreography they have spent the last six weeks on to the song Jeep Jockey Jump! They really swung out, giving the crowd at the Rhythm Club a thrill with their great skills and style! Everyone did a terrific job, and we couldn't be prouder of them!
See you soon!
